Dealing with the home of a loved one who has recently passed away can be an incredibly emotional and challenging experience for families.
The bereavement service is designed to help families navigate the emotional and often overwhelming task of sorting through a loved one’s belongings and preparing their home for sale. We understand the deep emotional connection to personal items and the difficulty of making decisions about them. Our goal is to provide compassionate support and practical assistance during this challenging time, particularly for families who live far from the home or even abroad.
Service Examples:
• Personalised Care: We take the time to understand the family’s wishes and the emotional significance of belongings. We offer a bespoke approach, carefully sorting through each item and working at a speed to suit the family.
• Charity Donations: We can arrange for donations to charities chosen by the family, honouring their loved one’s preferences. Whether it’s a local hospice, animal shelter, or another cause, we ensure donations are made thoughtfully. (We recently organised several different charity donations for one client: wigs to a charity dedicated to providing cancer patients wigs, workwear to a charity specialising in proving homeless people outfits for interviews and donated food and toiletries to the local food bank.)
• Auction House Valuations: For items of potential value, we arrange professional valuations and coordinate sales through reputable auction houses.
• Home Preparation for Sale: We take care of cleaning, necessary repairs, gardening, and obtaining estate agent quotes/valuations and recommendations, making the home presentable and ready for the market.
A recent client, Natalie shared a touching review after we assisted her in sorting through her late mother’s belongings and preparing the home for sale: “I was introduced to Clare when my Mum passed away. Trying to clear my Mum’s house alone when her death was so sudden was incredibly tough. I asked Clare to support me whilst I had surgery and my goodness, I’m so glad I did. Professional, kind and compassionate from the first call to the last visit. She went about things in a professional, methodical manner, set up calls to ensure decisions were made quickly with family members and organised us way better than I could have imagined. It took the emotional strain out of the situation but allowed us to progress at the pace we needed. I can’t recommend her highly enough."
For families who live far from the home or abroad, this service is invaluable. We provide regular updates, virtual consultations, and comprehensive reports, ensuring families are informed and involved in the process without the need for constant travel.
